What is the World Ice Art Championships?

The BP World Ice Art Championships is in it's 22nd year offering artist's throughout the world the opportunity to come together in Fairbanks, Alaska and create huge ice sculptures. 

What type of artists can participates?
There are four ice sculpting events depending on the level of expertise of the artist.
Two events for are competitions for experienced artists
  1. The Single Block Classic is for experienced artists to form teams of one or two members to sculpt one block of ice, over a period of 60 hours (2 days).
  2. The Multi-Block Classic is for experienced artists to form teams of two to four members to sculpt 10 blocks of ice, over a period of 132 hours (5 1/2 days).
Two other events invite adult novices and high school students to explore the medium:
  1. The Amateur Open Exhibition is a non-competitive event that offers artists the opportunity to try out some ideas on a block of ice without the stress of competition.
  2. The Frances & Clarence G. Beers Youth Classic is available to teams of one or two high school students, grades 9 through 12.
All events take place at the Ice Park of ICE ALASKA in Fairbanks, Alaska in late February and early March.
