Invitation to Join the FUN: Construct an ice cannon that will be used to project three (3) tennis balls onto a visual target.   No more than three people may work as part of the team.  The team will have 24 hours to prepare the cannon for firing.  Each team will have 30 minutes to set up their cannon for firing, once the first tennis ball is fired each team shall have 15 minutes to fire the next 2 tennis balls.
   

Ice Alaska Provides

For construction of your cannon - 1 block of ice that measures approximately 2 ft x 2 ft x 3 ft that will be used to construct the cannon and carriage.  Ice cannon barrel must be completely constructed of ICE (No foreign material, i.e. metal, plastic, etc., can be used as sleeves for barrel)

 

Black powder/ 3 tennis balls- TBD ounces for use as the firing propellant to project the tennis balls. 

Initiation of charge- Must be able to be fired/initiated from behind a snow berm (minimum of 6ft)

 

Contestant Provides

List the tools and materials - Seven days prior to the start of the competition, each team must identify any tools and equipment that will be required from Ice Alaska to complete this project.  If any tools are required, include the specific amount of time they will be used.  Availability of equipment and type will be first come, first serve basis.

February 8 Entry Deadline
  February 9 - Mandatory Team Meeting- 2 PM at Ice Park
   
  March 21 - Construction of Cannon(s) 9:00 am (All Day - if you need it)
  March 22 - Firing phase Day One- 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm
March 23 - Firing phase Day Two - 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm
March 23 - Awards Ceremony : time TBD
 
   

Awards

Each winning team member shall receive $500 Gift Certificate to MacHaus Your Fairbanks Mac Specialist
   

How to Enter

Submit a Registration form and letter of intent to participate in Ice Cannon event to Ice Alaska No Later Than February 8, 2008. Ice Cannon Registration, PO Box 83134, Fairbanks Alaska 99708 or drop off to - Ice Park, 1925 Chena Landing Loop (off Phillips Field Road).
